GOD says that we are not to compare amongst ourselves. 2 Corinthians 10:12 – “For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” It is not wise to compare amongst ourselves. Instead of fixating on others or the standards of the world, as individuals we should seek to be better than what we were before – even in the next minute we need to be better than we are this minute. Galatians 6:4 – “But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”
We need to seek GOD for Wisdom and Discernment to grow as individuals. Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Our ultimate goal should always be to please GOD.
Everything we seek to accomplish should be to the glory of GOD. It is written in Galatians 1:10 – For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
Comparison amongst ourselves brings on conflict and chaos. Philippians 2:3 – “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” Indeed, instead competing with one another, hoping to outdo one another, which really means to hope for one another’s failure – their destruction, even – we should be hoping for the best for each other. We should build each other up so that we can strengthen one another. This builds and strengthens us as followers of Jesus Christ and allows us to share the gospel more effectively.
GOD made us all to do different things. We should seek to improve as the person GOD made us to wants us to be. We should humbly be so. We received who we are and every talent and gift that we have, even those that we have to work to achieve – GOD allows us to do so. We have no right or justification to think that we are great because of anything that we do nor that we are better than anyone else. 1 Corinthians 4:7 – For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
We must be humble, grateful, and use that which GOD gives us and allows us to have for HIS will. Romans 12:3 – For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Comparison, especially when done for the sake of vainglory, can lead to destruction of a unit. It causes a house to be divided against itself. Mark 3:24 – 25 “24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Together we should always focus GOD and be united in Christ Jesus.
